A Physician’s Review of the Narconon Sauna

One of the most unique parts of the drug detoxification and rehabilitation program at Narconon Arrowhead is the use of a dry-heat sauna in helping addicts get off drugs. This is a key part of the process of eliminating drug residues and toxins from the bodies of addicts so that they can be freed of the urge to continue using drugs in the future, but it’s not surprising that most people have never heard of it. After all, this part of Narconon Arrowhead’s approach is an innovative and revolutionary approach towards actually helping addicts get permanently clean.

Prospective clients could understandably have a lot of questions about why they will spend time in a sauna, however. In order to help them understand the vital necessity of the sauna in helping addicts get off drugs, it can be helpful to examine the experience and knowledge of Dr. Megan Shields.

Quitting Smoking, Getting Healthy
My cigarette smoking has decreased since I have started sauna. The taste of cigarettes is not as pleasurable and he actual smoke (I believe) give me headaches. I always wanted to quit this nasty habit. K.C.

I Have My Life Ahead of Me
I have spent the last 31 days in the sauna, thinking I could not feel any better than I do now. But I know I am wrong. I have my whole life ahead of me with no drugs or alcohol and no cravings anymore. I think this is where I finally found my happiest within. It feels good to be healthy inside and out. J.B.

Recharged Body & Mind
I am nearing the end of sauna, which is bitter-sweet. Even though I had some bumps in the road I have an amazing experience. Not only do I feel great physically but my loved ones have noticed a change in my attitude and outlook on life when they talk to me on the phone. I sleep better and handle day-to-day situations with much more ease and less anxiety. Sauna is an ideal way to start the rest of the program with a recharged body and mind. L.H.

I have successfully completed the sauna program and I feel like a brand new person. Things are getting better! A.M.

Completing Narconon Sauna Treatment

Free & Clean
I am so excited to bw free and clean again. I love feeling smart because I am smart, not because I relied on a chemical to make me smart. I am ready and happy to be here. T.T.

Thinking Narconon Clearly
I have been doing very well in the sauna portion of the program. I have been thinking clearly and my body feels clear. It is my 18th day and I am looking forward to how I will feel at the end. Thank you very much to the case Supervisor who has been keeping it real.  C.A.

Fixing Things I Messed Up
I am starting to feel better. I woke up and realized that my thinking is starting to lt go of things that do not matter and grasp and do and concentrate more in detail on fixing things that I have messed up (righting the wrongs). J.G.

Achieving Long Term Sobriety One Day at a Time
As of today I have 40 days sober and 360 days of being drug free. I am here at Narconon in sauna feeling my feelings like I haven’t in years. I am feeling both the good and the bad. My head is feeling cleaner and my eye sight is better as well as my skin. Thanks. J.B.

I Have More Energy
I have completed my sauna program and feel great. It is shocking ho much more energy I have. I no longer feel the need to sleep all day. I feel bright eyed and bushy tailed. I was very grateful to have the opportunity to redo my sauna program. S.D.

How Narconon Sauna Minimizes Drug Cravings

Common sense would tell us that drugs and other man-made chemicals really do not belong in our bodies.  Most of us have experienced the fact that these chemicals dull our senses. And it continues to come to light that these chemicals contribute to—or cause—a wide range of illnesses.  The insidious nature of these drugs and other chemicals has far-reaching effects on a person’s physical and mental wellbeing.  For the substance abuser, these drugs and other man-made chemicals can be the make-break point in the person’s ability to get clean and sober, and remain so.

Narconon Sauna Helps Resolve Sleep Issues in Former Drug Users

Sleep issues plague many Americans, frequently stemming from our fast-paced lifestyles, stress, and poor diet choices which can include too much caffeine and sugar, as well as consuming processed foods with their preservatives and chemicals.  A sedentary lifestyle with hours spent sitting in front of a computer, commonly followed by hours spent sitting in from of a television does not lend itself to a healthy, well-exercised body which tends to be a factor in adequate and restful sleep.  And for those who have used drugs, the resulting nutritional deficiencies, generally lowered health level and the long-term adverse effects of having taken drugs can definitely exacerbate any issues with sleep.

How do Diet and Exercise Work with Narconon Sauna

There are many challenges to be met in restoring a person to sobriety, and restoring the ability to live a drug-free life for the long term.  But there is one fact which, if unknown or not successfully addressed as part of a person’s rehabilitation, will ultimately leave the person at risk of drug reversion and falling back into the trap of substance abuse and its lifestyle.

What other Benefits Does Sauna Treatment Offer

According to a November 2005 Harvard Health Publication online article, a sauna’s dry heat has “profound effects on the body.”  In part, those include an increase in skin temperature, an increase in pulse rate which allows the heart to pump nearly double the amount of blood each minute, and causing the average person to pour out nearly a pint of sweat during a short time spent in the sauna.

Sauna Detoxification Studied by University

Removing harmful chemicals from the body is not a new subject. Chemicals which people are exposed to every day in the air, from the sun, in the clothes they wear and the food they eat have certain chemical properties that can be harmful over time. Some of these chemicals can even cause serious health issues such as respiratory and heart failure, Alzheimer’s disease and various forms of cancer.

For a number of years now, saunas have been considered to be a good way to detox chemicals out of the body. These chemicals can be anything from drugs and alcohol to radiation poisoning and chemicals breathed in everyday air. At Narconon Arrowhead, the drug rehabilitation center’s detoxification program is centered on a low heat sauna treatment.  Many people have wondered if a sauna can really work to remove toxins, and now university researchers are looking into the subject as well.
