In late
2011, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
announced its new working definition of recovery
as it relates to substance abuse. According
to SAMSHA, recovery is defined as, “A
process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness,
live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential.”
Some Guiding Principles of Recovery
At the time that SAMSHA released
its working definition of recovery, the agency also delineated some guiding
principles of recovery.
It was pointed out that recovery
emerges from hope; the possibility of a better future which results from a
person being able to overcome challenges and obstacles, both internal and
external.
It was also pointed out that
recovery stems from a person’s self-determination and direction; with
individuals defining their own life goals and following their own unique path.
Another key issue identified by
SAMSHA as a guiding principle is that recovery is holistic, encompassing a
person’s whole life. It includes a
person’s mind, body, spirit and community.
It is within this basic framework
outlining what recovery is, and some of its key guiding principles that the Narconon
Sauna program excels as a vital part of successful, long-term recovery.
Questions We Must Ask
The field of drug rehabilitation
treatment is awash with different theories of addiction, different treatment
philosophies, and the all-too-common use of drug substitution and harm
reduction methods of dealing with addiction.
Any current treatment of addiction
can be measured against the working definition of recovery. We can question, does the treatment improve
the person’s health and wellness? Does the
treatment improve the person’s ability to live a self-directed life? Does the person strive to reach their full
potential as a result of the treatment?
The most pressing question remains:
does the treatment result in the addict being able to achieve sobriety, and
remain sober for the long-term? If an
addict continues to relapse and revert to drug use after drug rehabilitation
treatment, there must be a missing piece in recovery. And there is.
The
Missing Piece
The New-Life Detoxification Program, frequently referred to as the Narconon
Sauna or sauna program, can be considered to be the missing piece in recovery,
but why?
10 Reasons
The following are some reasons the
Narconon Sauna treatment is the missing piece in recovery.
1.
It accomplishes
drug-free detoxification
The Narconon Sauna is a
detoxification program designed to release and flush out of the body the
accumulated drug residues and toxins which remain lodged in the body tissues. It is done without drugs. There is no other known method which achieves
this result.
2.
It handles the
long-term adverse effects of having used drugs.
Drug residues can continue to
adversely affect the person even when he or she is no longer using drugs, even
years after the person ceased to use.
The Narconon Sauna rids the body of these drug residues.
3.
It rebuilds impaired tissues and cells.
The good nutrition and nutritional
supplements, including vitamins, minerals and oils taken while on the Narconon
Sauna program help to rebuild the impaired tissues and cells affected by drugs
and other toxic residuals.
4.
It addresses adverse mental effects caused by drugs and
drug use.
The mental image pictures the
person has of drugs, drug use and its adverse effects on the person are no
longer reactivated by the presence of the drug residuals in the body tissues.
5.
It addresses the consequences of chemical
toxins—drugs—on a living organism.
Bio
means “life; of living things.” Chemical means “of or having to do with
chemicals—substances which are the building blocks of matter, simple or
complex.
Biochemical
means “the interaction of life forms and chemical substances”, often
prohibiting and
The Narconon Sauna is a biochemical
detoxification action removing
life-hostile chemicals from the body.
6.
It diminishes or resolves drug cravings.
Drug residuals remaining in the
body reactivate and go back into circulation in the body, causing the person to
re-experience the physical and mental effects of the drug, and to crave
more. The Narconon Sauna rids the body
of these drug residuals, and the consequent cravings which are the key source
of relapse and reversion.
7.
It clears the mind.
Ridding the body of drug residues
and chemical toxins markedly restores the person’s ability to think clearly,
enabling the person in their decision-making and efforts to lead a
self-directed life.
8.
It increases the overall physical well-being.
Much of what continues to trap a
person in the cycle of addiction stems from not feeling physically well; the person
is in a state of pathology and deficiency exacerbated by the addiction
lifestyle and the drugs themselves. Ridding the body of the drug residuals is
vital to restoring overall physical well-being.
9.
It helps to restore and increased level of health.
The Narconon Sauna program includes
good nutrition, adequate sleep, and comprehensive and personalized nutritional
supplements (vitamins, minerals and oils) all serving to help the body repair
itself from the ravages of drugs and drug use.
10. It
is a long-range detoxification program.
In rehabilitating the drug user, it
is vital to accomplish the biochemical handling of ridding the body of
life-hostile drug and chemical toxins before he or she can truly achieve stable
and long-term mental and spiritual improvement.
Achieving long-term, stable
sobriety and a sense of physical, mental and spiritual well-being is the essence of recovery.
